New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, has characterized Donald Trump’s recent threats towards Iranian civilian infrastructure as “unhelpful”.

The PM, in an interview with Radio New Zealand, said the threats were “Unhelpful because further military action is unnecessary,” according to AP.

“I believe the essential point is that the emphasis should be on preventing this conflict from escalating any further,” he added.

“We received threats from the president over the weekend. Any actions taken, such as bombing bridges, reservoirs, and civilian infrastructure, would also be deemed unacceptable.”

Despite the threats and ultimatum issued by the American leader, Iran has remained adamant on issues concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and reaching an agreement for normalcy to return in the Gulf.

Iran said it can be forced into entering a deal to bring the war to an end, insisting that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Foreign Minister, Winston Peters intends to convey a message to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during their meeting in Washington, which is scheduled for this week, urging for a rapid de-escalation of the conflict, Luxon mentioned.
