‘PPP Will Make Nigeria Infrastructure Competitive’ – Ogun State Government Reveals

Ogun State government has said Public-Private Partnership (PPP) will diversify Nigeria’s economy thereby making the country more competitive in terms of its infrastructure base.

Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) Fellows’ and Awards day in Lagos, Head of Service, Ogun State, Isiaka Bisiriyu, said the added value co-created by a principled and purposeful PPP is inevitable and is moving apace to align Nigeria with the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.

Bisiriyu, who spoke on the theme, ‘Repositioning the public service for public private partnership to enhance good governance’, said collective action will not only synergise but accelerate innovation in today’s increasingly digitising world economy.

He said PPPs will extract long-term value-for-money through appropriate risk transfer to the private sector over the life of an infrastructural project – from design/ construction to operations and maintenance.

Earlier in his remarks, President and Chairman of Council, NIM, Prof. Olukunle Iyanda, said the timing of the conferment of fellows was significant.

Iyanda said:

“I do not think this nation has, in all its chequered history, faced as many challenges as it does at this time.

“Apart from the insurgency that has refused to go away, there is increasing insecurity and fear among the people to exercise their freedom of movement.

“There are allegations of corruption in the most sacred temples of the land, of the subjugation of national to sectional interests, and a seeming loss of faith in Nigerian nationhood,”

He said.

According to him, these are practices that are antithetical to the doctrine of professional management, which is embodied in the institute’s noble and admirable code of conduct.

He charged the fellows, old and new, to, therefore, accept the challenge to reverse the unproductive and undesirable trends in Nigeria.

“This we can do through the practice and the propagation of good management.

“We are, therefore, called upon to demonstrate the highest level of selflessness, probity, objectivity, and accountability in our own personal and professional responsibilities such that we can restore the faith of all stakeholders in Nigeria,”

He said.
