Vandals on Sunday destroyed electricity equipment in Enugwu-Ukwu 33KVA line in Anambra State, throwing about nine communities into darkness.
The vandals were said to have not only destroyed the equipment but carted them away, leaving the line in ruins.
Emeka Ezeh, Head, Communication, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC who disclosed this in a press statement said the company was working hard to restore the stolen equipment.
“The Enugu Electricity Distribution PLC (EEDC) regrets to inform her esteemed customers under Enugwu-Ukwu 33KV line that the current loss of supply being experienced is as a result of the vandalism of the 33KV network feeding them, which radiates from Agu Awka Transmission Substation, Awka, Anambra State.
“The line which was discovered vandalised in the early hours of today, Sunday, 8th December, 2019, feeds Enugwu-Ukwu, Abagana, Ukpo and Nimo 11KV feeders.
“Materials carted away include five spans of aluminium conductors, all fibre cross-arms and 33KV pot insulators, in addition, a broken High Tension pole.”
He listed communities affected to include, Enugwu-Ukwu, Abagana, Ukpo, Nimo, Nawfia, Umuokpu, Abba, Ifitedunu and parts of Amawbia.
He added that,
“Plans are on to address this challenge and we assure our customers that supply will be restored as soon as repairs/replacement are completed.”
