It is a big job being a football manager.
You are given a task of improving a club. When the going gets tough, you must answer to critics. When everything goes to plan, you are idolised.
This year alone saw some managers achieve great things.
Pep Guardiola won the treble (Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup) for Manchester City, and Jurgen Klopp did the impossible by winning the Champions League against all odds. He recently won the club world cup.
Mauricio Pochettino became the first manager to guide Tottenham to their first ever Champions League final, while Djamel Belmadi won the Africa Cup of Nations for Algeria.
We shouldn’t forget Tite won the 2019 Copa America for Brazil; his boys conceded just once in the entire tournament. Erik ten Hag, the Ajax manager courted by many big clubs in Europe, led his young side to the domestic league and cup double and also reached the Champions League semi-finals.
We surely missed some names but these managers all did an excellent job in 2019. But we must have a WINNER today.
