La Liga giants, Barcelona have announced the signing of Leganese striker, Martin Braithwaite to solve the challenge of a lack of strikers at the club caused by injury.
The move was confirmed on Thursday in a tweet from Barca’s official Twitter account in which the club said: @MartinBraith, the newest Barça player!
Welcome!
Barcelona completed the move for Braithwaite after triggering his €18 million (£15.6m/$19.4m) release clause.
Born June 5, 1991, the 28-year-old Danish player can play as a striker and as winger and he is expected to fill the gap created by the injury to Ousmane Dembele who will be out for up to six months and no longer expected to participate in the current 2019/2020 season and Luis Suarez who is sidelined for four months.
As previously reported by Naija News, Barca exploited a La Liga rule that permits clubs to sign players on an emergency basis if one of their existing squad members is ruled out for five months or longer, so long as the transfer target is either a free agent or arriving from within another team within Spain.

Dembele suffered a hamstring tear, prompting Barcelona to seek the approval of the Spanish FA to bring in a player to cover for the injured striker which was approved by the country’s football governing body.
Naija News, however, understands that Leganes will not be able to replace Braithwaite.
Braithwaite has scored 10 goals in 38 matches for Leganese this season.
