Strange disease: House of Reps members want colleague from Benue quarantined

Some lawmakers in the House of Representatives have suggested that a member from Benue state, Samson Okwu, be screened and quarantined for possible infection from a strange disease ravaging Oye-Obi area of Benue.

The legislators made the suggestion on Thursday, February 20, during deliberations on the need for the federal government to investigate the outbreak of a deadly disease in the area, The Nation reports.

While deliberations were on-going, James Faleke was reported to have moved a point of order asking for the need to quarantine Okwu, pending the determination of the cause and nature of the disease to prevent its spread.

His suggestion was backed by minority the leader, Ndudi Elumelu, who supported the call for the Benue lawmaker to quarantined.

However, the deputy speaker Ahmed Idris Wase, who presided over plenary, refused to back the suggestion and cautioned his colleagues against making any hasty decision on the matter.
