Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has identified Manchester City winger, Raheem Sterling, as the player that destroyed his side during the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
The former Chelsea keeper noted that the Los Blancos were in control of the game until Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, introduced Sterling, who troubled his side within five minutes.
The English Premier League side defeated Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, thanks to two goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kelvin De Bruyne.
Isco’s goal, however, was not enough to give his side a draw ahead of the second leg in Etihad.
Real Madrid’s official website quoted Courtois after the match saying: “We were in control of the game at 1-0.”
“But when they brought on Sterling, who’s pacy, we lost the game inside five minutes.”
“And that is the way it goes in football.”
“Now we have to be confident to beat Barcelona in Sunday’s La Liga El Clásico match.”
Courtois will now hope Real Madrid defeats the Premier League champions in the return leg at the Etihad Stadium on March 17.
