APC vs PDP – Supreme Court Adjourns Ruling On Imo State Governorship Review

The Supreme Court on Monday, adjourned hearing in the case on the review of its verdict on the Imo State governorship election.

The adjournment follows a request by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the sacked Emeka Ihedioha when the matter came up for hearing on Monday.

Kanu Agabi, counsel to Ihedioha, asked the seven-man panel of justices to give him more time to file a reply to an application by Uzodinma’s legal team as he noted that some fresh documents had just been served on him before the court began sitting.

“The matter was adjourned for hearing and just few moments ago we were served with a process and we will have to look at it. If it is convenient for us to come back tomorrow,” he said.

Explaining why they had to serve the fresh papers on Monday, Damian Dodo, counsel to Uzodinma, explained that it was the earliest they could do because they filed on Friday.

“The applicants were served with the process this morning because they filed on Friday. Today is the earliest we could file. We are prepared to proceed,” he said.

After conferring, the seven-man panel of justices led by Ibrahim Muhammad, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), adjourned the hearing till Tuesday.

“The hearing is adjourned till 3rd day of March 2020,” it ruled.

Naija News recalls the Supreme Court in January 2020, sacked Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP and installed Hope Uzodinma of the APC as the authentic governor of Imo State.

This happened after the court agreed with him that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wrongfully excluded the results of 388 polling units where he reportedly garnered high votes.

Not satisfied with the verdict of the apex court, however, Ihedioha is asking the apex court to review the judgment sacking him as governor of the state.
