There was tension in Benin City as a yet-to-be identified Wheelbarrow Pusher allegedly killed a tax collector before killing himself in Edo State.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Friday at Mission road, Oredo Local government Area of Edo State.

The incident caused pandemonium among residents, shop owners and hawkers in the area as they hurriedly closed shop for fear of being attacked.

It was gathered that an argument ensued between the barrow pusher and the tax collector  over alleged refusal by the wheelbarrow pusher to pay N50 daily ticket.

It was gathered that angered by the development, the revenue collector kicked the wheelbarrow containing bags of items and it fell by the road side and spilled its content on the road. The argument resulted in hot verbal exchange between them and as a result the wheelbarrow pusher brought out a knife strapped to his waist and stabbed the tax collector.

It was learnt that efforts by the crowd to prevail on the angry barrow pusher to exercise restraint was unsuccessful as he waited to ensure that the council tax collector was dead.

The barrow pusher, it was learnt after being convinced that his victim is dead, he also stabbed himself on his neck apparently to avoid mob action and died.

When contacted the Edo stated spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident.

“It Is confirmed,” he said.
