A man simply identified as Bro. Joe was arrested by the Nigeria Police and youths of Ogbogoro in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State for abducting and defiling a 12-year-old girl.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the girl was running an errand for her mother in the community when the suspect and his accomplices allegedly took her hostage for two days in an uncompleted building.

Father of the girl, Mr Anele Aleruchi, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday said his wife sent the girl to buy drugs but was waylaid by the hoodlums.

Aleruchi further said the suspect alongside two others tied his daughter, blindfolded her and took her to an uncompleted building where they had carnal knowledge of her.

He stated, “Bro Joe met her on the road and deceived the little girl into following him. When the girl refused to follow him, the suspect carried the girl with two other men. They used clothes to tie her face and took her to an uncompleted building and kept her for two days.

“When the girl came out after two days, we asked her what happened? She said Bro Joe took her to an uncompleted building with two other men.

“She said when they took her to the uncompleted building, Bro Joe touched her private parts and also used his manhood to put in her private parts several times.”

He said the suspects blindfolded the girl and took her to Ozuoba junction, left her there and fled before a Good Samaritan saw her and took her out of the danger zone.

Aleruchi however said days later the girl identified the first suspect that waylaid her, and immediately led youths of the community who alerted the police leading to his arrest.

The distraught father disclosed that the result of the medical examination conducted on the minor showed there was penetration in her private parts.

Speaking on the incident, the National Coordinator, Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Prince Wiro, said the case should be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department that handles such cases.

Wiro stated that the alleged abduction and defilement should be thoroughly investigated and if found culpable the suspect should be arraigned in court to decide his fate.

When contacted, spokesperson for the state Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying, “The suspect has been arrested and transferred to the State CID.”

Iringe-Koko said the police have spread its dragnet to ensure the two other fleeing suspects are arrested.
