The Primate of the Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, has called for the abolition of the current constitution and the drafting of a new one that prioritises justice and equity within a truly democratic system.

Ndukuba made the call at the Standing Committee Meeting of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, held at Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

DAILY POST reports that the Standing Committee Meeting is a biannual event held in February and September.

The Primate emphasised that a constitution developed through citizen participation is the only way to address the nation’s challenges, adding that the present system fosters greed, anarchy, and injustice.

He condemned the ongoing killings across the country and urged authorities to take decisive action to restore security.

Most Reverend Ndukuba also encouraged citizens to remain resilient, expressing hope for a better future.

According to the cleric, while many of these crimes are committed by foreigners from neighbouring countries, such individuals are often hired by politicians to serve their interests.

He also called for a collective effort to detoxify the nation and promote total healing.

The Anglican Primate urged President Bola Tinubu to leave a lasting legacy by addressing the factors threatening national unity.

He advocated for the establishment of a National Reconciliation Commission to tackle deep-seated divisions and set the country on a path to recovery.

He reiterated that addressing corruption and other socio-economic issues is key to restoring hope, particularly among disillusioned youths.
