Assistant inspector general of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 9, Umuahia, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has warned that the zone is unsafe for crime and criminals.
Uzuegbu stated this, yesterday, when the new leadership of Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abia State council paid him a courtesy visit in his office in the state capital.
He said under his leadership, the zone would continue to ensure that the residents are safe from criminals and free to move about to do their lawful business.
He stressed that the police and the press as stakeholders in the security of the society should work together to deepen the prevailing security of lives and property in the zone.
Expressing gratitude for the visit, the AIG assured the chapel that his doors are always open for its advice and consultation on how to serve the society better.
He solicited the support and cooperation of residents of the zone by providing the police with useful information about activities and movements of criminals within their areas.
Earlier, the chairman of the chapel, Steve Oko said they came to introduce themselves to him and to seek areas of co-operation with him and the zone
He noted that in the spirit of the police being a friend of the people, there is the need for the police to carry the press along to avoid misinformation about its activities.
Oko, who pointed out areas where the police could make adjustments for improved service delivery, assured the AIG of the chapel’s support and cooperation .
The chairman congratulated Uzuegbu for his appointment to the office, praying that by God’s grace, he would be elevated to a higher office sooner than he expected.
