The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has maintained the country’s Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 27 percent, keeping the benchmark interest rate unchanged.

The Governor of the CBN, Olayemi Cardoso, announced the decision during a press conference at the Committee’s 303rd meeting in Abuja.

Cardoso said, “The Committee decided by a majority vote to maintain the monetary policy stance,” signalling that members still believe the economic environment does not support an additional rate cut.

The decision comes after the 50-basis-point reduction carried out in September 2025, which remains the only cut since the current CBN leadership began its tightening phase. It also represents the fourth straight hold recorded this year.

The MPR serves as the baseline interest rate that guides all other interest rates applied across the economy.
