The Nasarawa State Police Command has deployed 2,231 officers across the state as part of a comprehensive security plan to ensure the safety of lives and property during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The deployment covers all police formations in the state and is aimed at strengthening security at churches, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, highways, and other public spaces expected to record high human traffic during the festive period.
According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, said the move was designed to guarantee public safety and deter criminal activities throughout the celebrations.
“The deployment is to ensure the protection of lives and property before, during, and after the Christmas and New Year festivities,” CP Mohammed said.
According to the statement, the officers have been directed to intensify visibility policing, conduct round-the-clock patrols, carry out stop-and-search operations, and rely on intelligence-led surveillance to prevent crimes and respond swiftly to security threats.
“Special attention is being given to identified flashpoints, black spots, and border communities across the state,” the commissioner added.
He further disclosed that traffic personnel have been strategically positioned to ensure the free flow of vehicles and minimise congestion on major roads during the festive period.
The police command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining a peaceful and crime-free environment, while urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives.
“Members of the public are encouraged to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through our emergency lines,” Mohammed said.
The Nasarawa State Police Command also extended goodwill messages to residents, wishing them a peaceful and joyful Christmas celebration and reaffirming its resolve to sustain public safety beyond the festive season.
