The Nasarawa State Government has reiterated its resolve to sustain and strengthen its partnership with security agencies operating in the state to boost their effectiveness and overall performance.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Labaran Magaji, gave the assurance on Wednesday in Lafia while hosting the Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Nasarawa State Command, Anthony Sanda, during a courtesy visit to his office.
Magaji commended security agencies for their critical role in maintaining peace and stability across the state, noting that their contributions have been instrumental to the success of the peace-building initiatives of Governor Abdullahi Sule.
“We deeply appreciate the efforts you are making to stabilise and sustain peace in Nasarawa State,” the SSG said.
“Your collaboration has greatly supported the governor’s vision, and it is one of the reasons the state continues to stand out among others in terms of relative peace and security.”
The secretary assured the visiting delegation that the state government would continue to provide the necessary backing to the Nigerian Correctional Service and other security outfits to enable them to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
He also stressed the importance of the correctional system in reforming offenders and improving society, describing correctional centres as a crucial stage in addressing crime and criminal behaviour.
“We are encouraged by the outcomes of your work. It is rare to see individuals leave correctional facilities worse than they were before incarceration, which shows that you are fulfilling your mandate of reform and rehabilitation,” he stated.
Magaji urged the service to remain committed to its statutory duties, adding that effective correctional management would contribute to a safer society and a stronger nation.
Before then, the Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service in the state, Anthony Sanda, said the visit was aimed at strengthening ties with the state government and expressing appreciation for its consistent support.
Sanda, however, appealed for increased assistance to enable the command to enhance its operations and discharge its duties more efficiently.
