Authority of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has debunked alleged non-payment of promotion arrears and other entitlements to personnel of the corps.
DAILY POST recalls a report published in some online media (not DAILY POST), alleging that personnel of 2022-2024 promotion arrears were not paid.
ACC Afolabi Babawale, NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, in a statement described the allegation as false, baseless, misleading, and malicious. He said the publication is a campaign of calumny, deliberately sponsored to mislead the public, cause unnecessary tension, and malign the integrity of the corps’ leadership.
According to the statement, the Commandant General of the NSCDC , Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, does not control the payment of salary arrears, promotion arrears, or other emoluments.
It said the payment of arrears falls squarely under the Presidential Committee on Arrears, chaired by the Director-General, Budget Office of the Federation, and the Accountant General of the Federation, and not the NSCDC, adding that payment records showed clear progress.
This is incorrect and a complete falsehood. It is on record, that the current leadership of the Corps inherited 5 years of unpaid salary arrears upon assumption of duty in 2021, and with assiduous efforts and interface with government, the CG was able to clear the backlog from 2015 to 2019 where over 37,000 personnel benefited contrary to erroneous claims that he withheld funds meant for personnel welfare.” The statement said
It said the NSCDC remains committed to personnel welfare and corps’ leadership under Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
It said the corps will not be swayed or succumb to blackmail, cyberbullying, or any attempt by individuals or groups to undermine the credibility of the agency.
It urged the public, stakeholders, and the media to ignore any false publications aimed at sowing seeds of discord amongst the personnel and its leadership. Media organizations are also enjoined to always verify information through established channels and disengage from rushing to the press to run down personalities or agencies.
It appealed to all personnel nationwide to remain calm and be patient with the government as they have promised to release the funds for disbursement in due course.
