President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Chief of Naval Operations of the Nigerian Navy, Musa Katagum, who passed away on February 19, 2026, after a protracted illness.
The condolence is contained in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy on Friday.
In the condolence message, the President sympathised with the family of the late senior officer as well as officers and men of the Nigerian Navy and the leadership of the Armed Forces, describing the death as “a blow to the military and the country” in view of Katagum’s experience and contributions.
Tinubu noted that the late Rear Admiral made invaluable contributions to the Armed Forces, praising his record of service and professionalism.
He highlighted Katagum’s career trajectory, including his roles as Director of Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre (PC4), and Chief of Intelligence of the Nigerian Navy, before his appointment as Chief of Operations in November last year.
The President commended the deceased officer for “his valour, exceptional leadership, and mentorship of a generation of officers,” stressing that his legacy would endure within the military.
He also prayed that “Almighty Allah would grant his soul eternal rest and give succour to his family and comrades in the military at this time of grief.”
