Actor Yul Edochie has weighed in on societal attitudes toward men dealing with emotional struggles, stating that men rarely receive pity or emotional support during difficult times.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast by Glitch Africa Studios, Edochie said men are generally expected to endure pain silently, push forward regardless of their circumstances, and remain strong through hardship.
Edochie argued that people tend to be less sympathetic toward emotional men compared to women and children, and described men who die by suicide as weak.
“Pity doesn’t work for men. It works for women and children only. Nobody has time to pity a man. Thats why it pa!ned me when I saw that our guy ,(Roby Ekpo) sitting in this chair and cry!ng, why would you even be cry!ng? Anything that happens to a man, you need to stand up and keep moving. Men who commit suicide are weak”, he wrote.
