England midfielder Jordan Henderson has not been ruled out of further participation in the World Cup despite undergoing surgery on a broken arm, with team officials exploring the possibility of him playing in a cast.
The 36-Year-Old Brentford midfielder sustained the freak injury while attempting to jump over advertising hoardings during post-match celebrations following England’s 3-2 victory over Mexico, falling awkwardly and requiring oxygen before being stretchered off. Henderson did not feature in that last-16 match at the Azteca Stadium.
Henderson, who posted on social media about his surgery in Kansas City—England’s tournament base—remains with the squad. While his return is considered a long shot, he could still be included in matchday squads for remaining games, sources confirmed.
Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers described Henderson as “the heartbeat of the group,” praising his resilience and influence.
“He’s not going to rule himself out and neither are we,” Rogers said. “To see him this morning smiling… hopefully we can get him out on the pitch as soon as possible.”
