Real Madrid have suffered a major injury blow following their 2-1 defeat in the LaLiga derby on Sunday.

The Los Blancos confirmed in a statement via their website after the game that captain Fede Valverde sustained an ankle injury.

Valverde suffered a strong tackle from Atlético’s Kang-In Lee, which went unpunished by the referee.

The Uruguay midfielder was diagnosed with a severe trauma to his left ankle after Atletico defeated Jose Mourinho’s side.

Valverde will now undergo further tests in the coming hours.

The 28-Year-Old will hope to recover on time to play for Real Madrid when they face Villarreal in their next game after the international break.
