The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has outlined the steps candidates can follow to check the approved O’Level and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) subject requirements for their preferred courses and institutions.
The Board urged candidates to confirm their subject combinations before selecting a course or changing their admission choices, noting that high UTME scores and good O’Level results alone do not guarantee admission eligibility.
In an advisory published on its JAMB Explained platform on X on Friday, the board explained that admission requirements vary across institutions and academic programmes.
“Do you know that your subject combination might be the reason you don’t get admitted? You can have good scores in the UTME and O-Level results and still not be eligible for admission,” JAMB stated.
The Board directed candidates to use its Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS), accessible at www.ibass.jamb.gov.ng, to verify the specific requirements for their preferred courses and institutions.
It also provided a step-by-step guide on how to retrieve the information from the portal.
Candidates are required to visit the IBASS website and select the brochure section, then click the option to view all institutions.
They can then use the institution filter to locate their preferred university, polytechnic or college of education before selecting their desired course.
After choosing a programme, candidates should click on the “View Details” option to access its admission requirements.
According to JAMB, the information displayed includes the approved O’Level subjects and grades required for the programme, as well as the correct UTME subject combination.
The Board advised candidates to study the requirements carefully and ensure that their O’Level qualifications and UTME subjects align with the conditions specified for their chosen programmes.
It added that checking the details before admission registration would help candidates avoid errors that could render them ineligible, even if they meet the required examination scores.
JAMB emphasised that meeting the subject requirements set by individual institutions and programmes remains a necessary condition for admission, irrespective of candidates’ performance in UTME and O’Level examinations.
