BREAKING: Court Remands Nnamdi Kanu In DSS Custody

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has been remanded in detention.

Kanu was remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court’s Abuja Division on Tuesday (DSS).

Shuaibu Labaran, a federal government lawyer, had filed an application for remand.

Kanu was claimed to have been intercepted by government joint security operatives.

Kanu was apprehended on Sunday, June 27, 2021, according to Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who made the announcement during a joint news conference with the DSS and Police.

However, there was no mention of where he was apprehended in the briefing.

In a decision on Kanu’s motion for remand in DSS custody, Justice Nyako ruled that the prosecution should notify Kanu’s lawyer of his detention and remand in DSS custody.

The court then deferred the case until July 26 to continue the trial.

Kanu was given bail in 2017, but he jumped bail and the authorities proclaimed him wanted.

Kanu is being held responsible by the federal government for a number of recent incidents of violence in the southeast, in addition to jumping his bail.
