Music journalist Joey Akan has taken to social media to share that the Nigerian music history and success were built on cybercrime.
He explained that in the history of Afrobeat’s honorable mention has to be given to the Yahoo boys for their role in the growth and success of the industry.
He shared that online fraudsters popularly known as yahoo boys, funded and kept alive an industry with no institutional or corporate funding.
He noted that many in the industry fail to accept this fact but it is a reality. Joey stated that huge parts of Nigerian music history and success were built on cybercrime.
Many agreed with him sharing that most label bosses and other music executives back in the day were Yahoo boys who used music as a cover up for their actual jobs.
