Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has assured National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members posted to the state of their safety despite the ongoing security challenges in parts of the state and northern Nigeria.

Speaking on Friday, through the Commissioner for Youth, Sports Development, and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, the governor emphasized that his administration is working closely with security agencies to provide a safe environment for corps members during their service year.

“While our nation continues to grapple with serious security concerns, Benue State is no exception. However, I want to assure you that we are taking your safety seriously,” Alia said.

“We have implemented comprehensive protective measures in collaboration with all relevant security outfits to safeguard corps members’ lodges and areas of deployment.”

Governor Alia also urged the newly inducted corps members to take full advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme, calling it a gateway to self-reliance and success.

He encouraged them to leverage their talents to contribute meaningfully to national development, saying, “The gifts and abilities that brought you this far are the same ones that will shape the future of our country.”

Also speaking at the event, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Veronica Garba, expressed gratitude to the state government and the people of Benue for their continued support. She encouraged corps members to fully engage in the four core areas of the orientation course: physical fitness, intellectual development, recreational activities, and skills training.

The orientation course formally began with the swearing-in of 1,600 corps members, presided over by Justice Peter Ukande, representing the Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Maurice Ikpambeae.
