Former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, has told Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu no longer sleeps at night over lingering security and economic issues bedevilling the country.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Kalu said the country is currently facing a manpower challenge, as most Nigerians do not want to join the police.
He admitted that the country is highly under-policed but noted it is not the government’s failure to recruit, since, according to him, even when advertisements are placed, people are skeptical about joining the police.
He, however, assured Nigerians that President Tinubu has kept sleep aside in order to find solutions to Nigeria’s problems and insisted that things would get better soon.
The Abia State federal lawmaker said, “It’s a problem of manpower. This is a population of almost 300 million people. We are not 250 million.”
Asked why the Tinubu government and the All Progressives Congress, APC, his party, are so sluggish about what they promised Nigerians, Kalu added, “No, let me tell you, we cannot force anybody to join the Nigeria Police Force.
“We have advertised. Did you apply? So we are doing everything possible.
“President Tinubu is having sleepless nights every day about Nigeria, and I can assure you that things will get better.”
DAILY POST reports that part of the Renewed Hope Agenda promised by President Bola Tinubu to Nigerians is that he would protect every part of the country by getting more boots on the ground.
However, the country is currently facing what is arguably its worst security challenges since 2012, as terrorist groups seem to have found safe ground in Nigeria’s territories, with kidnappings and killings reported by major media houses across the country on a daily basis.
