Olowo Of Owo: Palace Chiefs Send Strong Warning To Politicians

Politicians have been warned to steer clear of the selection process that will herald the emergence of a new Olowo of Owo.

Giving this admonition at the palace, Owo chiefs emphasised that consequences awaits anyone who failed to heed the warning.

According to Ekon-Odo Agbara of Owo kingdom, Chief Jamiu Ekungba, who spoke on behalf of the palace chiefs during the visit of members of Owo Nucleus Club to commiserate with the community on the demise of the late Olowo, Oba Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi, maintained that the selection process is tasking but would be done according to custom and tradition.

“Owo is rich in tradition, consequently there are people responsible for selection. These people should be allowed to do their job without interference.

“Particularly, those responsible for the task are not selected just anyhow, they are the ones called “Agba Omolowo” (Kingmakers). They are on oath with Owo that they will never be unfair and unjust to Owo. They will ever be equitable.

“Consequently, people with such big burden should be allowed to do their work. Particularly, the politicians, they should stay out of it.

“Also, those who are going to have anything to do with that process should not be involved in any shady dealings.

“There are consequences for those that might try to interfere with the process. Those who did it 20 years ago paid for it.”

Chief Ekugba also disclosed that those interested in becoming the new Olowo are not allowed to make open their intent until the ongoing rites are concluded, emphasising that there is no vacancy as at present in the palace.

“Immediately after the 17 days rites end, another process will begin for another nine days. It is after the 9th day that anyone can come to aspire for the anything, because there is no vacancy now until that time.

“After the completion of the entire process, those who wants to aspire can come forward and they will be guided and nurtured on how to go about it. There is one stool and only one person will get.”
